BETHLEHEM, Pa. - On a rainy night, Lehigh men's soccer took care of business and downed the defending Patriot League Champions, picking up a 3-1 victory over Boston University Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. With the win, the Mountain Hawks moved to 3-6-1 (2-1 PL), and the Terriers dropped to 1-3-6 (1-1-1 PL).Â
"I'm happy with how we responded to Boston University getting level with us on our mistake that happens on a rainy, wet day like today," said head coach Dean Koski. "We got another goal, and we got some confidence, we got another goal and we probably could have scored another goal as well. I really liked how resilient we were when we gave up that goal. We could have packed it in, and we didn't. I also really appreciated the leadership out there today - our upperclassmen are doing a really good job of showing the way, and we are getting some really good performances from some of the younger players too."
First-year Aiden Gonzalez opened up the scoring in the 41st minute after he chased down the ball and put it perfectly on target in the top right corner of the net. That goal marked the first collegiate goal for Gonzalez. Perry Kingson was credited with the assist on Kingson's goal. While the two players got Lehigh started, they would not stop there.Â
Boston University scored the equalizer in the 56th minute after Keke Abai snuck the ball right inside of senior goalkeeper Blake Koski's legs as he went up to save the ball.Â
Ten minutes later, Lehigh responded as junior defender Sam Davis broke the deadlock in the 66th minute and headed in the top right corner of the goal on a cross from junior midfielder Beckett Wenger. Wenger was credited with the assist.Â
The Mountain Hawks didn't stop there as the duo of Kingson and Gonalez struck again just two minutes later. Kingson stole the ball from the Terriers and passed it out wide to Gonzalez who was there to put it right in the goal in the 68th minute.
The box score was pretty even on Saturday with both teams recording 10 shots and Lehigh holding a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Mountain Hawks also had a 5-4 advantage in corners.Â
Koski finished with two saves for Lehigh while Sheraz Saadat tallied two saves for the Terriers.Â
The Mountain Hawks will look to keep it going when they host Marist on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
