Cimino Tabbed As Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Lehigh Lands Four On Academic All-PL Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh graduate student Emily Cimino has been selected as the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball, the league announced Wednesday. The award comes one day after the outfielder was named to the All-Patriot League first team for her third career all-league honor.

Cimino is one of four Mountain Hawks to earn Academic All-Patriot League honors. She is joined by classmate Josie Charles and seniors Amanda Greaney and Brooke Cannon.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Lehigh's four selections account for one-third of the 12-member team.

Cimino graduated from Lehigh last May with a degree in biology with a 3.73 GPA. She is enrolled in graduate school in Lehigh's College of Health, where she holds a 3.82 GPA.

The Estell Manor, N.J. native is now a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree, who has also earned Academic All-District recognition from the College Sports Communicators the last two years. Cimino has made Lehigh's Dean's List in five of her nine semesters on campus with a pair of 4.0 semesters to her credit. Next year, Cimino is off to De Sales University's prestigious Physician's Assistant program.

On the field, Cimino is now a three-time All-Patriot League selection and two-time first team honoree. She is hitting .329 with 14 doubles, four home runs and 36 RBIs. Cimino enters the Patriot League Tournament with 162 RBIs, three off the Lehigh and Patriot League career record.

Charles earns Academic All-Patriot League honors for the second straight year. A May 2023 graduate with a 3.85 in industrial and systems engineering, Charles holds a 3.92 GPA in her management science and engineering graduate program.

Named a second team All-Patriot League honoree on Tuesday, Charles is hitting .297 with 33 runs scored, six triples, 22 RBIs and 12 stolen bases this season.

Cannon also earns her second career Academic All-League nod after making the team in 2022. She carries a 3.86 GPA in industrial and systems engineering and received a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Greece next year.

Lehigh's starting center fielder, Cannon is a .268 hitter with 31 runs scored and 24 RBIs. She was second team All-Patriot League last season.

The owner of the top GPA on the Lehigh softball team Greaney boasts a 3.94 in mechanical engineering. She has made the Dean's List with a GPA over 3.6 in all seven semesters at Lehigh with three 4.0 semesters to her credit.

Greaney is a four-year starter behind the plate and is hitting .292 with 13 RBIs this season.

Cimino becomes the 11th different Lehigh softball player to win Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the first since Carley Barjaktarovich in 2021.

The Mountain Hawks will open the Patriot League Tournament in Boston on Thursday. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, Thursday's tournament games have been moved to Boston College Softball Field in Brighton, with the Mountain Hawks set to face Bucknell at approximately 12:30 p.m., or 30 minutes after the completion of the Boston University-Army opening game.
