4/5/2024 10:01:00 AM | Women's Golf

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After opening the spring season with tournaments in Florida and Georgia the Lehigh women's golf team will compete a little closer to home this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will make the short trip to Piscataway, N.J. for the 54-hole Rutgers Invitational, Saturday and Sunday.

Lehigh is one of nine teams that will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. The course is expected to play at just under 6,000 yards to a par 71. Action will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.

Participating teams include Dartmouth, Georgetown, Lehigh, Monmouth, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. John's and UAlbany. Lehigh will play with Monmouth and Sacred Heart for Saturday's first two rounds.

Last time out, Lehigh competed at the rain-shortened Georgia State Invitational, where the Mountain Hawks finished 12th out of 16 teams. Thirty-six holes were played on March 25 with senior Venecia Zaia leading the way, tying for 36th place at 156 (79-77). The March 26 final round was rained out.

The Rutgers Invitational will feature a play six, score four format similar to the Patriot League Championship. Lehigh's entry will include Zaia, junior Madison Pineda, sophomore Yuki Zhu and first-years Stefania Fedun, Olivia Lu and Bella Scanapicco. Junior Sophie Chang will compete as an individual.

Following the Rutgers Invitational, Lehigh will play in the Navy Spring Invitational, April 13-14 in Annapolis, Md. The event will serve as the final tune-up before Bucknell hosts the Patriot League Championship April 19-21.
