Lehigh Continues Opening Week Road Trip Against Georgetown

11/5/2024 6:35:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After suffering a loss to Northwestern in the season opener, Lehigh men's basketball continues its opening week road trip on Wednesday night. The Mountain Hawks will visit the Georgetown Hoyas in Washington, D.C. at 7 p.m. from McDonough Arena on Georgetown's campus.

Lehigh's matchup against Georgetown is the second of three power conference opponents that the Mountain Hawks will face on their schedule. In addition to Northwestern and Georgetown, the team is slated to face UCLA on November 15.

Lehigh holds a 1-3 record all-time against Georgetown, with their last meeting coming in the 1985 NCAA Tournament. The Mountain Hawks, who were at the time the Engineers, fell 68-43 to the Hoyas, who would go on to advance to the title game. Lehigh's lone win over the Hoyas came in the 1917-18 season in a low-scoring 28-26 victory.

The Mountain Hawks opened the season with a 90-46 road loss to the Northwestern Wildcats on Monday evening. The Wildcats blitzed Lehigh to open up the game, scoring 51 points in the first half. Lehigh put up more of a fight in the second half, being outscored 39-31 in the final 20 minutes. The Mountain Hawks were led offensively by sophomore Nasir Whitlock, who tallied 11 points, four assists and two steals on the night. He was joined in double-figures by senior Tyler Whitney-Sidney with 10.

The Hoyas are entering year two under head coach Ed Cooley, who left Providence to join Georgetown in 2023. The team comprised of nearly all new players, with only five returners from the 2023-24 roster. The Hoyas finished with a 9-23 record and 2-18 mark in Big East play a season ago. The team's leading scorer Jayden Epps returns after averaging 18.5 points per game. Ivy League Rookie of the Year Malik Mack transferred to Georgetown in the offseason after averaging 17.2 points per game during his freshman season at Harvard. The team features five players from the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area and five transfers from Power 5 schools.

Following Wednesday's clash, Lehigh won't be in action again until Tuesday, November 12 to take on Columbia.

Wednesday's game will be broadcast on FS2 and can be listened to on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
