BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team will close out its fall campaign as the Mountain Hawks host the Lehigh Invitational, Saturday and Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Nine teams will be participating in the 36-hole, two-day event which will cap Lehigh's fall season.
Â
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 6,012 yards from the ladies tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
Â
Lehigh has posted top three team finishes in each of its first three fall tournaments. The Mountain Hawks were runners up at the Bucknell and Navy Fall Invitationals. Lehigh is coming off a third-place finish at the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational, with junior Yuki Zhu leading the way individually with a fourth place finish. Senior Madison Pineda and first-year Reese Hannon led Lehigh at Bucknell, while sophomore Stefania Fedun was the low Mountain Hawk at Navy.
Â
The Mountain Hawks' lineup will feature Pineda, Fedun, Hannon, Zhu and sophomore Bella Scanapicco. Senior Sophie Chang, sophomore Olivia Lu and first-year Alana Hall will compete as individuals.
Â
Last year Lehigh finished eighth out of 16 teams at the Lehigh Invitational with Zhu finishing as the individual runner-up.
Â
This year, the women's and men's tournaments will be contested at the same time at Saucon Valley Country Club. The women will go off the 10th tee both days. On the women's side, Lehigh will be joined by UAlbany, Bucknell, Cal State Northridge, Fairfield, FDU, Monmouth, Navy and Saint Francis.
Â
Saturday's opening round tee times will begin at 10 a.m. while Sunday's final round tee times are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Â
Lehigh's scoring team will play with Navy and Monmouth Saturday, with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
