BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will close out its fall schedule when the Mountain Hawks host the two-day, 36-hole Lehigh Invitational Saturday and Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks will welcome seven other teams to Saucon Valley for their fifth and final fall event.
Â
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 7,051 yards from the championship tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
Â
Lehigh last competed earlier this week at Miami Ohio's RedHawk Intercollegiate in Pittsburgh. Junior Jake Roth led the way for Lehigh, tying for 42nd place. Team-wise, Lehigh's best performance of the fall was a fifth-place showing out of 12 teams at the Temple Invitational Sept. 21-22.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will be looking to defend their title at the Lehigh Invitational as the Brown and White topped a 13-team field last October. David Hurly '23 was the individual medalist while juniors Will Caronchi and Aiden LeBlanc were members of Lehigh's squad that captured the team title.
Â
This year, the men's and women's tournaments will be contested at the same time at Saucon Valley Country Club. The men will go off the first tee both days. On the men's side, Lehigh will be joined by Binghamton, Fairfield, Lafayette, Monmouth, Rider, Siena and William & Mary.
Â
All nine Mountain Hawks are expected to compete with Lehigh's scoring team comprised of Roth, LeBlanc, Caronchi plus sophomore Charles Schrohe and junior Paulius Malcius. Senior Jahan Bains, sophomore Matthew Quinn and first-years Noah Zyung and Luke Block will compete as individuals.
Â
Saturday's opening round tee times will begin at 10 a.m. while Sunday's final round tee times are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Â
Lehigh's individuals will play alongside Binghamton and Monmouth beginning at 11 a.m. while the scoring team will play with Siena and William & Mary Saturday, with tee times beginning at 11:40 a.m.
