Lehigh Battles Tough Conditions On Day One Of Red Bandana Invitational

MILTON, Mass. – The Lehigh women's golf team battled wet, challenging conditions on day one of the Red Bandana Invitational, Monday at Blue Hill Country Club. The Mountain Hawks turned in an opening round 313 with their second round score pending the completion of one more hole by senior Venecia Zaia. Lehigh sits in ninth place out of 17 teams entering Tuesday's final round.
 
Junior Madison Pineda led the way for Lehigh with a 36-hole score of 153 (78-75) to sit in a tie for 18th place. Pineda's afternoon 75 was the low round of the day for the Mountain Hawks. She made two birdies in each round Monday.
 
Sophomore Yuki Zhu led Lehigh in round one with a 77 and shot 79 in the afternoon to finish day one at 156, good for a tie for 33rd place. Zhu parred 25 of her 36 holes with one birdie in the opening round.
 
Zaia totaled a team-best five birdies in her 35 holes, shooting 78 in the opening round. She is eight over par through 17 holes in round two and is tied for 42nd place. Zaia carded three birdies in the morning and added two more in the afternoon.
 
Lehigh's top finisher last week at the Hornet Classic at the Creek, first-year Stefania Fedun, is tied for 56th place at 161 (80-81). Fedun carded four total birdies, including three in her opening round.
 
First-year Bella Scanapicco shot 181 (87-94) and sits in 88th place. Scanapicco made one birdie in her opening round.
 
Host Boston College turned in a pair of sub-300 rounds (297-298) to take the lead in the team race at 595, five strokes better than second-place Sacred Heart.
 
LIU's Emily Byrne is the individual leader at even par 144 (74-70). She leads Boston College's Canice Screene by two strokes.
 
The Red Bandana Invitational concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes from Blue Hill Country Club.
