Mountain Hawks Claim Third Place At Hornet Classic At The Creek

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – With three players in the top 15 individually, the Lehigh women's golf team posted a third place team finish at Delaware State's Hornet Classic at the Creek, which wrapped up Tuesday at Kings Creek Country Club. The Mountain Hawks turned in another round of 304 Tuesday to finish the 54-hole event at 902 (304-294-304). The final total marks the second-lowest 54-hole team score in program history, trailing only the 895 turned in at last year's Patriot League Championship.

First-year Stefania Fedun led the way for the Mountain Hawks, tying for sixth place at 221 (70-72-79). Fedun's opening round 70 marked the third-lowest single round score in program history.

Sophomore Yuki Zhu tied for 11th place at 224 (78-71-75). Zhu carded a pair of birdies in her final round.

Junior Madison Pineda led Lehigh on Tuesday shooting two over par 73. Pineda made two birdies in her final round and finished in 14th place at 226 (78-75-73).

All five of Lehigh's entrants finished in the top 40 in a 75-player field. Senior Venecia Zaia tied for 29th place at 236 (78-81-77). Zaia also made a pair of birdies in her final round.

First-year Olivia Lu tied for 36th place in her first collegiate tournament with a final score of 239 (81-76-82).

Howard claimed the team title at 873 (293-283-297) with the Bison defeating second place Sacred Heart by 13 strokes.

Sacred Heart had the top two individuals, with Margot Rouquette winning medalist honors at even par 213 (72-70-71). Rouquette bested teammate Chantal El Chaib by two strokes.

Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be Boston College's Red Bandana Intercollegiate, Sept. 25-26 in Milton, Mass.
