Fedun Tied For Lead After 36 Holes At Hornet Classic At The Creek

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Lehigh women's golf team enjoyed a strong opening day at Delaware State's Hornet Classic at the Creek Monday at Kings Creek Country Club. With first-year Stefania Fedun leading the way, Lehigh put together rounds of 304 and 294 with its 36-hole total of 594 landing the Mountain Hawks in third place in a 14-team field.
 
Powered by an opening round 70, which ties for the third-lowest round in program history, Fedun is tied for the individual lead at even par 142 (70-72). Fedun carded three birdies in her morning round 70 and added four more in the afternoon. She is tied with Sacred Heart's Margot Rouquette heading into Tuesday's final round. Fedun became the sixth Mountain Hawk to turn in a round of 70.
 
Sophomore Yuki Zhu is tied for 12th place at seven over par 149 (78-71). Zhu made two birdies in the morning and added two more in the afternoon along with 15 pars in her round of even par 71. The 71 was the eighth in program history.
 
Junior Madison Pineda turned in rounds of 78 and 75 and is tied for 18th place at 153. Pineda made one birdie in each round with both birdies coming on par 3s.
 
First-year Olivia Lu made her Lehigh debut with rounds of 81 and 76 and is tied for 32nd at 157. Senior Venecia Zaia is tied for 39th place at 159 (78-81).
 
The second round 294 is the second lowest score in program history, trailing only the 290 turned in by the Mountain Hawks in the first round of this event last year.
 
Howard holds the 36-hole team lead at eight over par 576. The Bison lead second place Sacred Heart by 20 strokes, with Lehigh 22 shots off the pace.
 
The Hornet Classic at the Creek concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
