
Lehigh Field Hockey Hosts Ohio State Friday; Welcomes Ball State Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The reigning Patriot League Champions open the new season at 6 p.m. on Friday, as the Mountain Hawks host Ohio State at Ulrich Field. The homestand continues on Sunday at 1 p.m. when Ball State comes to Bethlehem.

The Mountain Hawks finished the 2023 season as Patriot League champions with a record of 13-8 (4-2 PL). Following its championship win, Lehigh ended the historic season with a 4-0 loss to Delaware in the team's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Lehigh returns eight starters including two Preseason All-Patriot League honorees in seniors Abbie Brown and Julia Gatelein.Â

The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 3-0, most recently defeating Lehigh 4-0 on September 4, 2022. Ohio State returns seven starters from last year's squad, including four out of the six leading scorers. Leanne Bough led the Buckeyes with eight goals and three assists, compiling a career-high 19 points.

Lehigh leads 3-2 in the series with Ball State, defeating the Cardinals 3-1 last season. Gatelein scored a goal in the victory. Last season, Ball State was 7-12 (4-3 Mid-American Conference), qualifying for the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Cardinals' run ended in the first round when they lost 2-0 to Miami (Ohio). Ball State returns leading scorer sophomore Fleur Knopert who scored nine goals and dished out five assists.Â

The Mountain Hawks spend next weekend on the road, playing Lock Haven at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1 followed by a 1 p.m. game on Sept. 3 at Hofstra. Lehigh returns home at 1 p.m. on Sept. 10, welcoming Sacred Heart to Ulrich Field.
