BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three early-season tournaments and 13 home matches inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall highlight the 2023 Lehigh volleyball schedule, announced Friday. Head coach Alexa Keckler's squad did not have any graduating seniors last year allowing a younger team to grow and develop. Overall, the Mountain Hawks' regular season slate features 27 matches, with 10 road matches and four neutral site contests in addition to the 13 matches at home.
Â
The first two weekends of the season will see Lehigh off on the road for three match tournaments. The Mountain Hawks will open at a tournament hosted by Temple Aug. 25-26, taking on the host Owls on opening day and then Iona and LIU on Saturday Aug. 26. Lehigh will then play in a tournament at UConn, Sept. 1-2, with the Mountain Hawks facing Merrimack on Sept. 1 and then the host Huskies and Hofstra on Sept. 2.
Â
The home schedule begins with the annual Steel Classic Tournament, which this year will run three days from Sept. 7-9. The Steel Classic begins with Lehigh hosting Virginia Tech on Thursday, Sept. 7. It will mark Lehigh's first home match against a Power 5 opponent since the Mountain Hawks hosted Rutgers in 2018 and the first at home against an ACC foe since Lehigh hosted NC State in 2004. Lehigh's action at the Steel Classic also features matches against Delaware State (Sept. 8), Binghamton (Sept. 9) and FDU (Sept. 9).
Â
The Steel Classic also starts a stretch of eight consecutive home matches for the brown and white. The four Steel Classic matches will be followed by a Sept. 13 date with Villanova and then three home matches to open Patriot League play. Lehigh opens league play against Holy Cross on Sept. 16 and then will host Colgate the following day. The homestand concludes with a Sept. 22 match against Bucknell.
Â
Round one of the Rivalry will be Sunday Sept. 24 at Lafayette and will be followed with road matches at Loyola (Sept. 29) and American (Sept. 30).
Â
Lehigh opens October at home against Navy on Oct. 6 and then will play a home-and-home with Army West Point with the Mountain Hawks visiting West Point on Oct. 8 and then hosting the Black Knights on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Â
The final two weekends of October see Lehigh visiting Holy Cross (Oct. 20) and Colgate (Oct. 21) and then returning home to host American (Oct. 27) and Loyola (Oct. 28).
Â
The home edition of the Rivalry is presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute and will be Friday, Nov. 3. The regular season concludes with road matches at Bucknell (Nov. 5) and Navy (Nov. 9).
Â
The Patriot League Tournament dates are Nov. 14 (quarterfinal), Nov. 17 (semifinal) and Nov. 19 (championship).
Â
Lehigh's core of returning players includes 2022 All-Patriot League honorees Megan Schulte and Emily Stewart.
