Lehigh Duo Set To Embark On European Tour

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two members of the Lehigh volleyball team are heading to Europe to play on an international tour. Rising junior Makena Smith and rising sophomore Natalie Luscomb are two out of 12 players comprising the U23 team representing Bring it Promotions on a European tour July 13-23.
 
The Lehigh duo represents two of the four Division I players on the squad. Smith and Luscomb will compete on a team with student-athletes from Virginia Tech, Gardner-Webb, Rutgers-Camden, Colorado Mesa, Young Harris College, Wingate and West Florida.
 
The tour will begin in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and will feature morning sightseeing and evening practices and friendly matches. After a stop in Split, Croatia, the team will head to Pula, Croatia for the four-day European Global Challenge, July 18-21. The tournament will feature national-select teams from the United States, as well as junior national teams and elite club teams from across Europe. The squad will have a stop in Venice, Italy prior to returning to the United States.
 
The U23 BIP SE All-Star Team will also travel with an U19 BIP SE All-Star Team.
 
Smith has been Lehigh's starting setter in each of her first two seasons. She led the Mountain Hawks with 932 assists in 2022 and ranked second on the team with 27 service aces and 227 digs.
 
Luscomb appeared in all 28 matches for the Mountain Hawks last season and ranked second on the squad with 249 kills and a .283 hitting percentage.
 
Defensively, Smith (86) and Luscomb (85) ranked second and third, respectively, in total blocks for the Brown and White.
 
Both Mountain Hawks are Annapolis, Md., natives and products of Broadneck High School and Metro Volleyball Club of DC.
