Three Mountain Hawks Named to NFCA All-Region Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of the Lehigh softball program have been named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region third team, announced Thursday. Graduate student Carley Barjaktarovich earns NFCA All-Region honors for the third time in her career and is joined on the team by first-time honorees Josie Charles and Katelyn Young.

The NFCA All-Region teams are voted on by coaches within the region.

Barjaktarovich recently completed a stellar playing career for the brown and white. A five-year starter at shortstop, Barjaktarovich was a three-time All-Patriot League honoree, earning first team honors in each of the last two seasons. She also won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year honors within the Patriot League. At the plate, Barjaktarovich departs as Lehigh's career leader in hits with 265. A career .376 hitter, Barjaktarovich scored 147 runs and stole 76 bases in 210 career games. In her senior season. Barjaktarovich batted .391 and set a school record with 79 hits, while also establishing a new program mark with a 35-game hitting streak.

Charles earns her first career all-region honors after an outstanding senior campaign. She started all 54 games in left field for Lehigh and led the Mountain Hawks with a .412 batting average. Charles added 73 hits, a team-leading six triples, 27 RBIs and 18 stolen bases for the Mountain Hawks. She was a first team All-Patriot League selection for the first time in her career and was one of two Lehigh players selected to the Patriot League's All-Tournament Team after recording five hits, including three triples, and a pair of RBIs in three tournament games.

Young garners her first all-region honor after hitting the 20-win mark to lead the Mountain Hawks in 2023. In a team-leading 169 innings of work, Young posted a 20-8 mark and a 2.78 earned run average. She struck out 116 batters and led Lehigh with three shutouts, including her first career no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Monmouth on March 22. The Mountain Hawks earned six victories against teams ranked in the top 75 of the NCAA's RPI this season, with Young earning the victory in four of those games, including the Mountain Hawks' opening-day win at No. 7/9 Alabama, Lehigh's first-ever win over a top 10 team.

At 40-14, Lehigh posted the sixth 40-win season in program history and the first since 2015. The Mountain Hawks posted six wins in 13 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
