Mountain Hawks Enjoy Strong Start to Patriot League Championship

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – The Lehigh women's golf team enjoyed a strong start to the Patriot League Championship Friday at Independence Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 298, tied for the second-lowest 18-hole team score in program history, and sit in second place following the first of three days of competition.

Lehigh sits five strokes behind host Richmond and six strokes ahead of third place Boston University.

All six of Lehigh's players shot 78 or better Friday and sit in the top 20 individually. Sophomore Madison Pineda led the way with a round of one over par 73 as she is tied for third place. Pineda's opening round included two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys.

First-year Yuki Zhu turned in an opening round 74 and is tied for fifth place. Zhu also made two birdies in her opening round.

Senior Iris Shin turned in a career-low round of 75 and is tied for eighth place, with Shin matching Pineda and Zhu with two birdies.

First-year Evelyn Wong gave Lehigh four players in the top 10 with a round of 76 to sit in a tie for 10th place.

Junior Meghna Grover and senior Hannah Foster both shot 78 and are tied for 18th place. Grover led the Mountain Hawks and tied for tops in the field with four birdies in her opening round.

Richmond's Rory Weinfurther holds the individual lead at one under par 71 and leads teammate Olivia Wilkie by one stroke. Pineda and Bucknell's Paige Richter are two strokes behind.

The Patriot League Championship continues Saturday with the second 18 holes of play. Lehigh will play with Richmond and Boston University with tee times beginning at 8:45 a.m.
