Lehigh Set For Patriot League Championship, Beginning Friday in Virginia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is headed south for the Patriot League Championship as Richmond will host the three-day, 54-hole event Friday-Sunday at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.

Boston University is the defending champion, as the Terriers edged Richmond to win the team title. The rest of the six-team field includes Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lehigh and Navy. Lehigh last won the Patriot League in 2013, the inaugural year of the championship.Â
The top five individual finishers will earn first team All-Patriot League honors including ties. Individuals finishing sixth to 10th place will earn second team All-Patriot League honors. The team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals.Â

Sophomore Madison Pineda will occupy the top spot in the Lehigh lineup in her second championship appearance. Pineda was last year's Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a first-team all-league honoree after finishing third at the league championship. She is one of two players to play all 20 competitive rounds for the Mountain Hawks this year and leads Lehigh with a 77.35 scoring average.

First-year players will participate in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Evelyn Wong was right behind Pineda with a 77.75 average and Yuki Zhu ranked third on the team at 78.35. Zhu won a Patriot League Golfer of the Week award just over a month ago.

Junior Meghna Grover will play in the No. 4 spot in her second championship appearance. Grover tied for 20th last year and returns after missing Lehigh's last two tournaments.

Seniors Iris Shin and Hannah Foster round out the lineup for the Mountain Hawks. Both players will compete in their third championship. Foster was Lehigh's top finisher in 2021.

Last time out Lehigh finished fifth out of nine teams at Howard's Lady Bison Invitational. Pineda led the way with a seventh-place finish and went on to win Patriot League Golfer of the Week honors.

Lehigh's spring season has been highlighted by a team title at the SMSU Spring Classic in mid-March in Arizona.
