Mountain Hawks Head South To Complete Home-And-Home At UMBC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's basketball team will hit the road for the second consecutive weekend by traveling to Baltimore for a matchup with UMBC on Saturday. The game will be the second contest in as many years between the Mountain Hawks and Retrievers.
Lehigh holds a 3-3 record against the Retrievers all-time. Last season, UMBC traveled to Bethlehem for the first game of a two-season home-and-home, with the Retrievers pulling out an 88-62 victory. Lehigh won each of the previous two meetings in 2013 and 2014, winning by scores of 70-68 and 58-55. Prior to 2013, Lehigh and UMBC had not faced off against one another since the 1990s.
Lehigh (1-6) welcomed Saint Francis to town in their last contest on Wednesday, falling to the Red Flash by a narrow 62-61 margin. SFU's Cam Gregory was fouled from beyond the three-point line with ten seconds remaining in the game and knocked down all three from the charity stripe to put the Red Flash up for good. Junior Keith Higgins Jr. led Lehigh in scoring by posting a season-high 24 points in the loss. He comes into Saturday's contest as the Patriot League's leading scorer at a mark of 16.9 points per game.
UMBC (4-5) enters Saturday's contest following an 89-70 decision to Coppin State on Thursday night. UMBC's leading scorer is sophomore Dion Brown who is averaging 15.2 points per game. Brown also leads the Retrievers in both rebounding and assists. Graduate student Khydarius Smith and junior Marcus Banks Jr. join Brown as UMBC's other double-digit scorers, averaging 13.6 and 11.9 points per game respectively. The Retrievers, led by now third-year head coach Jim Ferry, finished last season with an 18-14 record while going 8-8 in America East conference play.
Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN+.
