BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball will turn back the clock on Saturday afternoon as they will welcome the 1993 Patriot League Championship team back to Grace Hall for a special recognition. The Mountain Hawks will be hosting Army West Point at 2 p.m. on Saturday, a team that they faced on the road last weekend.
The 1993 team is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their triumph over Army in the Patriot League Championship, a match that they won in five sets exactly one month and 29 years to the day of Saturday's contest. The team will be recognized in between sets two and three of the match.
Lehigh (10-9, 2-6 PL) enters Saturday's match after going 1-1 across two contests last weekend. The Mountain Hawks returned to Grace Hall after a three-match absence on Friday for a tilt with the Navy Midshipmen. Lehigh successfully pulled off the upset on 'Dig Pink' night, defeating Navy in five sets. The Mountain Hawks then traveled north for a match against Army on Sunday, which Lehigh dropped in four sets. Megan Schulte currently leads the Mountain Hawks with 261 kills, which ranks her second in the Patriot League. Makena Smith's 484 assists leads Lehigh and ranks fourth in the league. Kyleigh Brown leads the team with 274 digs (second in the PL) while Emily Stewart's 83 blocks are a team-high (second in PL).
Army West Point (10-7, 7-1) has looked dominant to begin league-play, as their only loss came at the hands of defending league-champion Colgate. The Black Knights competed on Saturday and Sunday of last weekend, defeating Navy in four sets and Lehigh in four sets. Savannah Bray leads Army with 151 kills, Diana Ethridge leads the team with 515 assists, Riley Parchment's 270 digs lead the way and Alyssa Lukasik's 59 blocks are a team-high.
Lehigh will hit the road next weekend to take on both Holy Cross and Colgate. The Mountain Hawks will face the Crusaders on Friday at 6 p.m. in Worcester and then take on the Crusaders in Hamilton on Saturday at 3 p.m. Like Lehigh Volleyball on Facebook, follow on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram for continued updates on the Mountain Hawks.
