Lehigh Returns Home to Host Holy Cross on Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's basketball team returns home to Bethlehem to take on Holy Cross in a Patriot League matchup inside of Stabler Arena on Wednesday evening, with tipoff set for 7 p.m.

Lehigh (7-8, 2-2 PL) enters the game coming off a 78-73 road victory over Navy on Sunday that featured senior Evan Taylor matching his career-high in points with 26 while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Taylor, who earned a Patriot League Honorable Mention, has now scored in double-digits for the 13th time in 15 games and reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season and second straight outing. Both sophomore Keith Higgins Jr. and junior JT Tan also reached double-digits in the win over Navy, with Higgins Jr. scoring 16 points and Tan tossing in 10 points.

Taylor, Higgins Jr. and sophomore Tyler Whitney-Sidney are all averaging 12-plus points for the Mountain Hawks. Taylor has contributed 14.8 points with 5.5 rebounds per contest while Higgins Jr. averages 14.0 points per game and 2.1 assists per contest. Whitney-Sidney is scoring 12.7 points per outing, and a team-leading 27 steals and 2.3 assists per game, along with 5.0 rebounds.

Holy Cross (6-11, 3-1 PL) is entering Wednesday's game coming off a win over Loyola (Md.), 63-55, on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders have now defeated three Patriot League teams, with a narrow win over Bucknell (60-58) and then took down Navy (74-63) on the road. Holy Cross's lone league loss came in overtime to American inside the Hart Center (73-68). The Crusaders and Lehigh do not have any common non-league opponents, but both squads have defeated Bucknell and Navy. The Crusaders have four scoring in double-figures, led by Gerrale Gates, who is averaging 17.4 points and bringing down 8.8 rebounds a game. Gates also leads the squad in steals (27) and blocks (23). Bo Montgomery, Joe Octave and Will Batchelder are also scoring at least 10 points per contest.

Holy Cross leads the overall series with a record of 44-28, but Lehigh is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. Lehigh had won four-straight games before falling to the Crusaders last year in the Hart Center on Jan. 28, 2022 (67-65), but the Mountain Hawks won on their home floor on Jan. 10 (77-69) to split the season series a year ago.
