Lehigh Completes Rivalry Sweep With Extra-Inning 7-6 Win Over Lafayette

The win gave Lehigh a sweep of the three game series and extended the Mountain Hawks' winning streak to eight consecutive games.
Senior Addie Kittel paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while sophomore Amanda Greaney drove in two. Sophomore Kaitlyn Young threw six innings of solid relief to earn the victory.
Lehigh improves to 13-11 overall and 4-0 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette is now 5-23 overall and 0-6 in league play.
The visiting Leopards jumped out in front with three runs in the top of the second inning off senior Gabriella Nori. Kinzi Van Wyk led off the frame with a home run to left field and Lafayette later added two more on a Lehigh throwing error and Jasmine Nguyen RBI single.
Lehigh answered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the second, all of which came with two outs. Senior Karsen O'Rourke reached on an infield single and then scored on a double to right by Greaney. Kittel followed with a long two-run home run out to left, her third of the season, which tied the game at 3-3.

The bottom half of the Lehigh batting order helped the Mountain Hawks take the lead in the fourth. Sophomore Brooke Cannon and O'Rourke reached on bunt singles and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Greaney brought home Cannon with a sacrifice fly to right to give Lehigh a 4-3 lead and then Kittel plated O'Rourke with an RBI ground out. Lehigh finished the frame with four bunt singles and took a 5-3 lead to the fifth.
Junior Lexington Poole delivered her second pinch-hit, RBI single in as many days, this time bringing home O'Rourke with two outs in the sixth.
In the seventh, Young retired two of the first three batters she faced, but Grace Harvey kept the game going with a single to left and then Kaya Ciccone-Cozart hit a game-tying three-run home run to left to even the score at 6-6.
Lehigh was unable to score in the home seventh and the game went to extra innings. Young fired a 1-2-3 top of the eighth and it was Kittel who sparked the game-winning rally with a one-out single through the left side. A walk to junior Josie Charles moved pinch runner Fedorka into scoring position. Barjaktarovich then dropped a bunt past the charging infield and out towards where the second baseman would be playing. Fedorka raced around third and scored the winning run after dislodging the ball from the Lafayette catcher.

Young picked up her second win of the series allowing three runs on five hits in six innings with four strikeouts. She did not walk a batter but she did hit one as she improves to 6-4 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks continue their 11-game home stand on Wednesday when they host Delaware for a single game, with first pitch set for just after 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
