
Lehigh blanked by undefeated Towson

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Towson controlled play from the start, as the Lehigh volleyball team (2-5) fell in straight sets (14-25, 13-25, 16-25) in the opener of the Tiger Invitational Friday afternoon at SECU Arena.
The Tigers (9-0) dominated the first set, getting out to an eight-point advantage mid-way through the set. Towson used a Lylah Washington service error to win the set by nine, 25-14.
Towson played a game of runs in the second set, getting out to as many as 12 points and staying put there for the 25-13 win.
The third set started similarly to the first two, with Towson getting out to an early 4-0 lead. A Tiger kill and bad set by Makena Smith had the Tigers leading, 9-3. Lehigh battled to trail by just three, but Towson won five of the final six point to take the set, 25-16 to capture the three-set sweep.
Freshman Megan Schulte led the Mountain Hawks with seven kills, committing just three errors with four digs. Fifth year Hannah Wright had six kills, sophomore Lylah Washington had five and freshman Emily Stewart added four kills with two blocks and a dig.
Freshman Makena Smith had 20 assists and six digs to pace Lehigh, while freshman libero Kyleigh Brown led with seven digs.
The Mountain Hawks hit .167 with 26 kills and 11 errors as a team, while Towson hit .411 as a team with 46 kills and nine errors.
Lehigh continues the tournament on Saturday, taking on Florida Atlantic at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. battle with Temple. Both matchups will be streamed live on FloVolleyball ($).
