Allen, Gurth, Haffner, Leach To Serve As Lehigh Football Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the 2021 season set to begin in less than 10 days, Lehigh head coach Tom Gilmore has announced the Mountain Hawks' team captains for the upcoming campaign. This year's team will be led by fifth-year linebacker Pete Haffner, senior running back RaShawn Allen, senior offensive lineman Justin Gurth and junior defensive back TyGee Leach.
"These four captains were selected because they have established themselves as some of our hardest workers and men of high character both on and off the field," Gilmore said. "Their teammates and staff have confidence in them leading the charge. I look forward to working directly with them so we can continue to improve and reach our goals this season."
Haffner will serve as a team captain for the second consecutive season. He was Lehigh's top tackler during the spring campaign and is a two-time second-team All-Patriot League honoree. Haffner is also a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree.
Lehigh's top rusher in the spring season, Allen has started every game at tailback over the last two seasons. He rushed for 128 yards over three games in the spring, highlighted by a 49-yard touchdown run at Lafayette.
Gurth is projected to be a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Mountain Hawks. He has started all 25 games of his Lehigh career to-date, playing right tackle as a freshman before moving to center in 2019, where he has started 14 consecutive games. Gurth was a second team All-Patriot League honoree in the spring.
Leach was Lehigh's lone first team All-Patriot League selection in the spring. He had 18 tackles in the spring and tied for the team lead with three tackles for loss, while also picking up an interception. Leach has appeared in all 14 games of his Lehigh career with 10 starts.
The Mountain Hawks will open the 2021 season against No. 15/16 Villanova on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 12 p.m. at Goodman Stadium. Tickets to that game and all Lehigh home football games can be purchased by visiting LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME during business hours.
