Mountain Hawks Complete Day One Of Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's golf team sits in sixth place out of eight teams after the first 36 holes of action at the Patriot League Championship at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 313 in the morning and 308 in the afternoon on the par 70 course to finish the first day of competition at 621.
 
Sophomore Sam Barton was the top performer for the Mountain Hawks on day one as he sits in 10th place at 148. Barton tied for the low round for Lehigh in round one with a 77, then shot 71 in the afternoon, the best round of the day for any Mountain Hawk. Barton made six birdies on day one, including five in the afternoon where he finished one over par.
 
Sophomore Joey Dotta shot back-to-back rounds of 78, making one birdie in each round, and is tied for 22nd place at 156.
 
Matching Barton with an opening round 77 was senior Owen Quinn, who made four birdies in his first round. Quinn shot 81 in the afternoon and is tied for 28th place at 158.
 
One stroke behind Quinn is sophomore David Hurly, who is tied for 34th place at 159 (81-78). Hurly made one birdie in his first 36 holes.
 
Freshmen Edmund Broderick and Marco Arosemena are tied for 45th place at 171. Broderick shot 85-86 with a birdie in each round, while Arosemena went 84-87 also with a birdie in each round.
 
Loyola shot back-to-back rounds of 288 to take the team lead at 576. The Greyhounds lead Lafayette by nine strokes, while Navy is third, 11 strokes off the lead.
 
Brandon Berry of Loyola holds the individual 36-hole lead at one under par 139 (69-70). Berry leads teammate Evan Brown and Lafayette's Brendan Cronin by four strokes.
 
The Patriot League Championship concludes Sunday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Lehigh will play with Bucknell and Army West Point in the final round, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. from the 10th tee.
