BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team recorded a sixth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships on Friday afternoon in Bethlehem. The Mountain Hawks finished with a score of 137 points, five points behind American for fifth. The Boston University Terriers clinched the title in tiebreakers over Army West Point. The Terriers have now won back-to-back titles.

Lehigh came into today's race having only competed an indoors 5K against Loyola (Md.) three weeks ago. Another struggle with Lehigh has been practicing, as the Mountain Hawks have missed opportunities to train due to inclement weather and COVID protocols. Today's race will only help propel the young Mountain Hawks in the future with today's experience.

Coach Debbie Utesch sent a young squad to the line today, missing several key runners on the team. One runner that was not missing, Jamie Zamrin. Zamrin's strong day was the highlight of the day for Lehigh. Out of 70 runners in the field, Zamrin finished 12th with a time of 20:35.10, earning her Second Team All-League honors.

As the gun went off, the nine teams took off in the parking lots behind Stabler Arena, the front portion of the runners all stayed together throughout the first lap around the road course. Zamrin, Madison Zaun and Christina Yakaboski remained was right in the middle of the leaders as they approached the quarter mark of the race.

As the race progressed, the runners up front started separating from the rest of the field, but Zamrin remained right with them. The freshman Yakaboski wa the second Lehigh runner throughout the majority of the race, while Zaun stayed within distance behind her.

Coming down the final stretch to the finish line, Zamrin gutted enough energy to hold off three competitors right behind her for the finish exciting finish. Zaun's late surge helped her edge Yakaboski to be Lehigh's second finisher. Zamrin finished with a time of 20:35.10, Zaun finished 25th with a time of 21:06.60 and Yakaboski's 21:08.00 was good enough for 27th.

Martina Sell was the fourth Lehigh finisher and 35th runner to cross the finish line at 21:30.10, while freshman Lindsay MacLellan was fifth Lehigh finisher and 38th overall with a time of 21.34.90. Junior Natalie Condon was the sixth Brown and White runner at 21:36.90.
