Spring 2021 Lehigh Football Preview: Wide Receivers
3/3/2021 3:19:00 PM | Football
As March begins Lehighsports.com will be taking a position-by-position look at the Lehigh football team, which will play a four-game Patriot League schedule in the spring of 2021. The Mountain Hawks, under the direction of second-year head coach Tom Gilmore, will open the 2021 spring season March 13 versus Holy Cross at Goodman Stadium.
We continue with a look at Lehigh's wide receivers.
Despite the graduation of first team All-Patriot League receiver Devon Bibbens, this may be one of Lehigh's deepest position groups. Five returnees have significant game experience while the coaching staff is very high on the three first-year receivers in the program.
The most accomplished of the group is senior Jorge Portorreal, a two-time All-Patriot League honoree who earned second-team honors in 2019 after catching 52 passes for 575 yards and a touchdown last season.
Junior Austin Dambach was Lehigh's third-leading receiver last season with 364 yards and a touchdown on the heels of a strong freshman campaign in 2018.
Sophomore Jalen Burbage averaged more than 11 yards per reception as a freshman before suffering a season-ending injury which he has since recovered from.
Junior De'Shun Mickens and sophomore Jack Sutton contributed to the passing game in 2019, while senior Matt Solomon and sophomore Johnny Foley are also primed for larger roles. Senior Evan Chadbourn missed all of 2019 due to injury and has been working with the receiver group. He possesses the versatility to contribute at receiver or as a running back.
The three newcomers all have the potential to contribute right away: Connor Kennedy from New Jersey, Eric Johnson from Texas and Roemello Miner from Virginia.
