As March begins Lehighsports.com will be taking a position-by-position look at the Lehigh football team, which will play a four-game Patriot League schedule in the spring of 2021. The Mountain Hawks, under the direction of second-year head coach Tom Gilmore, will open the 2021 spring season March 13 versus Holy Cross at Goodman Stadium.
We stay in the offensive backfield with a look at the running back position.
Lehigh's running back room features four returnees and a newcomer, led by the 1-2 punch of junior Rashawn Allen and sophomore Zaythan Hill.
Allen started all 11 games and rushed for 334 yards, highlighted by a 113-yard effort at Sacred Heart. He also showcased his talents as a freshman in 2018, rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns at FBS member Navy.
Hill led the Mountain Hawks in rushing yards (394) and touchdowns (five). He scored the eventual game-winner late at Colgate and set a Patriot League record with a 94-yard touchdown run in an overtime win at Fordham.
Junior Peter Lucas rushed for 53 yards on 16 carries in 2019 but impressed when given the opportunity.
Lehigh also returns senior Evan Chadbourn, who missed the entire 2019 season. Chadbourn has the versatility to contribute out of the backfield or as a wide receiver.
The lone newcomer to the running back group is Jack DiPietro from Long Valley, N.J.
