Last time out, Lehigh won three of the first five bouts to take a 10-7 lead halfway, but No. 2 Penn State won the first four bouts coming out of intermission to take a 23-16 victory in the 109th meeting of the longtime rivals at Rec Hall. Junior Jaret Lane opened the dual with a major decision victory and first year Manzona Bryant IV and junior Josh Humphreys added decisions, but the four top five-ranked Nittany Lions that wrestled combined to go 4-0 with two major decisions and a fall. Lane opened the dual with an impressive 11-3 major decision over Jake Campbell at 125, highlighted by a second period takedown and four point near fall. A pair of one-point decisions gave Lehigh a 10-7 lead at the halfway point. At 149, Bryant needed a third period rally to defeat Beau Bartlett 6-5. Bryant trailed 5-4 in the third period when he underhooked Bartlett and took him down to go ahead 6-5. After a restart from center with nine seconds left, Bryant was able to avoid giving up the match-tying escape as he held on for the victory. Humphreys held off Tony Negron 5-4 at 157 in a bout that saw three video reviews to give Lehigh the 10-7 lead at intermission. The Nittany Lions also forfeited to Jordan Wood at 285.

Six Lehigh wrestlers appear in the latest rankings by both InterMat and FloWrestling, led by senior Jordan Wood, who is ranked eighth by InterMat and seventh by FloWrestling. Humphreys is ranked as high as 10th, while Lane has a high of 11th. Returning EIWA champion Malyke Hines (133), first year Manzona Bryant IV (149) and sophomore Brian Meyer are all ranked by just InterMat and FloWrestling. InterMat ranks wrestlers 1-33. FloWrestling ranks 1-25. AWN and the Open Mat both go 1-20.

Twelve Division I teams will be competing in Niceville, Florida at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals, hosted by Journeymen Wrestling. The 12 teams have been split into red and blue pools with all teams wrestling two duals within their respective pools on Monday, Dec. 20 followed by one crossover dual on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Lehigh is in a red pool with Central Michigan and No. 1 Iowa. Its Tuesday match will be against one of No. 5 NC State, No. 10 Missouri or Binghamton. One blue pool features No. 6 Arizona State, No. 8 Virginia Tech and Hofstra, while the other includes No. 2 Penn State, No. 11 Cornell and No. 22 Northern Iowa.

Central Michigan brings a 1-0 dual mark into the Collegiate Wrestling Duals. The Chippewas' lone dual so far this season was a 24-12 home victory over Rider on Dec. 3. Central Michigan has also sent wrestlers to the Michigan State and Cleveland State Opens and the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. Three Chippewas appear in the latest InterMat rankings: Dresden Simon (No. 7 at 141), Matt Stencel (No. 9 at 285) and Johnny Lovett (No. 19 at 157). Tom Borrelli is in his 31st season as CMU's head coach.

Lehigh and Central Michigan will meet for the seventh time and the first time since November 2013. The Mountain Hawks lead the series 4-2 and have won three straight duals in the series. This will mark the fifth time in seven meetings that the Lehigh-Central Michigan dual will be held at a neutral site.

Defending national champion and top-ranked Iowa is 3-0 on the season and carries a 21-match winning streak into the Collegiate Wrestling Duals. This season, the Hawkeyes own home wins over Princeton and Army West Point and last time out won 23-11 at rival Iowa State on Dec. 5. Iowa has a wrestler ranked by InterMat at all 10 weight classes, including a top eight wrestler in nine of 10 weights. The Hawkeyes boast a pair of No. 1 ranked individuals in Spencer Lee (125) and Alex Marinelli (165). Lee, the defending national champion, is yet to compete this season. Austin DeSanto (133), Jaydin Eierman (141) and Michael Kemerer (174) are all ranked in the top three. Kemerer, like Lee, has not yet competed this season. Tom Brands is in his 16th season as Iowa's head coach.

Lehigh and Iowa meet for the 27th time and the first time since December 2018. This will be the first neutral site dual between the two programs.
