Lehigh Finishes 12th at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team ended its season with a strong performance at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday, finishing 12th overall on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Three Lehigh runners finished the 10K race within six places of each other, led by junior Connor Melko's 61st-place finish.
"I saw a pack of guys who really did a good job of sticking together," said Lehigh head coach Todd Etters. "There were parts when they got a little spread apart, but they really fought hard for each other and that's what you want to see out of a team – a group of guys who are willing to lay it on the line for each other."
Melko's finished in 32:20.7. Just seconds behind him was graduate student Seth Slavin in 64th (32:26.5) and senior Avery Lederer in 65th (32:27.1).
All seven Mountain Hawks who raced came in the top 100, as senior Nick Wilson came in 77th (32:48.4), graduate student Brad DeMassa placed 86th (32:58.7), junior Tyler French finished 88th (33:00.1) and first-year Aidan Lynch came in 91st (33:02.3).
"Any chance you race, it's a blessing and you want to take advantage of that," said Etters. "To be able to have a follow-up opportunity after a poor performance (at Patriots) really was a blessing and we took advantage of it today."
Friday marked the end of the cross country season for the Mountain Hawks, one that saw plenty of highlight moments and performances.
"It's always sad to see the seniors go," said Etters. "We have two fifth-year guys. It's always hard to see their careers come to an end, but I feel like they've really left our program in a great place. We're starting to feel ourselves out and realize that the future is bright, but we have to grab it. We have to go out and get it done.
"I believe we have the people who can do that."
