
Game of Runs Ends With Bucknell on Top, 84-70

BEHTLEHEM, Pa. – After trailing 20-11 early, the Lehigh men's basketball team outscored Bucknell 39-23 over the ensuing 15 minutes, but the Bison took over from there and went on to beat the Mountain Hawks (3-6, 1-4 Central), 84-70 on Saturday afternoon in Stabler Arena. Senior Marques Wilson led the offense with 15 points while junior Nic Lynch had 14. Junior Jeameril Wilson just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
The Mountain Hawks shot just 22.9 percent from the field in the second half (compared to Bucknell's 51.9 percent), which helped the Bison hold a 41-27 edge over the final 20 minutes to break a 43-43 halftime tie.
Freshman Ben Li added a career-high eight points in the defeat on 3-of-4 shooting (and 2-of-2 from the free throw line). He also grabbed a career-high five rebounds.
Freshman Dominic Parolin had seven points and a career-high eight boards, while sophomore Evan Taylor posted the identical stat line. Sophomore Reed Fenton scored seven points as well, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
After a Marques Wilson 3-pointer gave Lehigh a 9-8 lead, the Bison responded with a 12-2 run, capped off by a Deuce Turner fastbreak layup, to open a 20-11 advantage, forcing a Mountain Hawks' timeout with 13:27 on the clock.
Lehigh immediately responded with four straight points and 19 of the next 28 points. A 6-0 Mountain Hawks' surge, capped off by a Marques Wilson fastbreak layup, gave Lehigh the lead back at 30-29.
The ensuing minutes saw multiple ties and lead changes. The Mountain Hawks' lead reached as much as four after a Lynch layup made the score 39-35. Bucknell went on to score six of the final eight first-half points to pull even at 43 at the break.
Lehigh began the second half on a 7-0 run – via a Jake Betlow 3-pointer, Marques Wilson layup and Taylor offensive rebound and putback – to give Lehigh a 50-43 lead.
After a Bucknell timeout, the Bison responded with a 15-2 run to open a 58-52 advantage with 12:47 on the clock. The Mountain Hawks' offense went cold, scoring just three points over more than nine minutes of game action, allowing Bucknell to open as much as a 14-point second-half lead.
Lehigh pulled within eight on multiple occasions in the final eight minutes, but the Bison surged back ahead by 14, which proved to be the final margin.
For the game, the Mountain Hawks shot 36.1 percent from the field (26-of-72), including 21.4 percent from 3-point range (3-of-14). Bucknell finished at 50.0 percent (28-of-56) and 37.5 percent from behind the arc (6-of-16). Lehigh held a 43-34 edge on the glass, including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Five different Mountain Hawks tallied multiple offensive boards.
Lehigh will look to bounce back on Sunday when it travels to Bucknell. Opening tipoff is now set for 2 p.m. due to an impending winter storm.
