Mountain Hawks to kick off spring campaign at UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will open up its spring campaign this weekend as the Mountain Hawks head to Palm City, Florida for the three-day UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, beginning Friday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks are opening their spring season at the Martin Downs Collegiate for the third straight year as Lehigh will be on of xx teams playing 54 holes over three days on the Osprey Course.
 
The tournament will be the first of five spring events for the Mountain Hawks, culminating in the Patriot League Championship, hosted this year by Army West Point, April 25-26 in Deal, N.J.
 
The Mountain Hawks played in four tournaments during the fall season, highlighted by an eighth place finish at the Doc Gimmler, hosted by St. John's in mid-September. Lehigh capped its fall with a 10th place finish at the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club.
 
Lehigh enters the spring with a seven-man roster featuring senior leaders Owen Quinn and Ryan Kelly along with five freshmen: Alex Aurora, Sam Barton, Joey Dotta, David Hurly and Daniel Song. Quinn led the Mountain Hawks at the Doc Gimmler and the UConn Invitational at Greathorse. Aurora led the Mountain Hawks in the spring opener at Colgate, while Barton was the low Mountain Hawk at the Lehigh Invitational.
 
The Mountain Hawks' lineup this weekend will feature seniors Quinn and Kelly at the top, followed by freshmen Barton, Hurly and Aurora. Dotta and Song will compete as individuals.
 
Last year, Quinn led Lehigh at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, tying for 21st place, while Kelly tied for 81st.
 
This year's field at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate features Patriot League foes Bucknell and Holy Cross, plus Appalachian State, Drexel, Elon, James Madison, Old Dominion, Purdue Fort Wayne, Samford, Seton Hal, South Dakota and Villanova, plus hosts UNCG. The Spartans are the defending team champions. The tournament will feature 18 holes of play each day with live scoring available on GolfStat.com.
 
Over spring break, Lehigh will head to the west coast to take part in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay, March 15-17. The Mountain Hawks will play in Villanova's Wildcat Invitational (April 6-7) and Lafayette's Invitational (April 19-20) prior to the Patriot League Championship.
