
Mountain Hawks open spring with 10th place showing at UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – With freshmen Sam Barton and David Hurly leading the way, the Lehigh men's golf team closed out the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate with a third consecutive sub-300 round, as the Mountain Hawks shot 298 Sunday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs. The consistent play helped the Mountain Hawks move up one spot to finish 10th in a 14-team field.
Barton matched his Lehigh career-low round of 71 to finish in a tie for 43rd place at 221 (74-76-71). Barton's day began on the 10th hole with nine consecutive pars. He then birdied three of the first five holes on the front nine.
Hurly started hot, making four birdies in his first nine holes and shooting 34 on the back nine. He added two more birdies to have six in the round and finished at even par 72. Hurly was Lehigh's No. 3 finisher, tying for 53rd place at 223 (76-75-72).
Lehigh's No. 2 finisher for the tournament was senior Owen Quinn, who finished with a 78 on Sunday and tied for 47th place at 222 (71-73-78).
Senior Ryan Kelly and freshman Alex Aurora tied for 71st place at 231. Kelly made two birdies in a final round 79 and finished 75-77-79. Aurora made two birdies in a final round 77 to finish 76-78-77.
Lehigh's two freshman individuals, Daniel Song and Joey Dotta, finished tied for 62nd and 81st, respectively. Song had two birdies in a final round 79 to finish at 226 (72-75-79). Dotta shot 81 Sunday and had a final score of 235 (74-80-81).
Host UNCG held off James Madison by five strokes to win its second straight team title. Samford finished third, 30 shots behind the Spartans.
UNCG had the top two individuals, with Zach Swanson shooting 68 to overtake teammate Jonathan Brightwell. Swanson finished at 16 under par 200 (68-64-68).
Lehigh will next compete in California at the end of spring break, as the Mountain Hawks will play in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, March 15-17 in Alameda, Calif.
