BETHLEHEM, Pa. — After a game-winning goal to knock off Seton Hall on Saturday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, Lehigh men's soccer sophomore forward Josh Luchini was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. The award is Luchini's second of the season and the fourth overall award he's won since the beginning of the 2018 season.
Luchini tallied the game-winner in the 50th minute Saturday thanks to a cross from freshman Natan Rosen, which ended up being his third goal of the season. He has now scored in three consecutive games dating back to Sept. 6 at Northwestern. Luchini leads all Lehigh players in goals (3), points (6), shots (12) and shots on goal (8), through the team's first four games of the season.
Lehigh has played exceptionally well in back-to-back weekends against three power conference teams in Northwestern, Wisconsin and Seton Hall, but will have another road test on Tuesday against Binghamton out of the America East.
The Mountain Hawks have quite the history with Binghamton, as the Bearcats came to Bethlehem and bested Lehigh, 2-1 on Sept. 7 of last season. Oscar Greene scored Lehigh's only goal in the second minute of the contest, while Binghamton scored two goals in the second half to get the win. The all-time series is tied all knotted up at 1-1-1.
Lehigh has played exceptionally well in the last four games, scoring at least one goal in each of them. While Luchini has tallied three scores this year, junior Trevor Koski has two of the Mountain Hawks' five goals this season. Lehigh is averaging 1.25 goals per game on 58 shots. The team is averaging 14.5 shots per contest this year. On the defensive side of the ball, senior goalkeeper Will Smith registered his third shutout of the season on Saturday against Seton Hall, making three saves. With his performance, Smith lowered his GAA to 0.50 on the year, allowing just two goals in 360 minutes of play.
Binghamton is 1-4-0 so far to start the 2019 season, falling in its last four games. The Bearcats have not found victory since the season opener against Drexel on Aug. 30. Binghamton is led by Noah Luescher, who has three goals and six points in four games, making just one start. Parker McKnight and Dan Mansfield have each tallied a goal for the Bearcats through the first five contests. Mats Roorda is between the pipes for Binghamton, making five starts but allowing 12 goals in just over 453 minutes of play. He has faced 79 total shots and made 20 saves.
Tuesday night's matchup in Vestal, N.Y. will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
