
The Doc Gimmler on Bethpage Red Course up next for men's golf

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team has added a new event to its schedule as the Mountain Hawks will play in The Doc Gimmler, a two-day, 54-hole event hosted by St. John's, beginning Saturday on the Red Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
The Red Course at Bethpage State Park is a 7,092-yard, par-70 track that opened in 1933. The Red Course has served as the home of the Long Island Open Championship qualifier's round since 2012. It is one of five courses at Bethpage State Park, the most famous of which is the Black Course, which hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009 and the PGA Championship last May.
The Doc Gimmler will feature 36 holes on Saturday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and then the final round on Sunday. The 14-team field includes Towson, Saint Peter's, La Salle, Rhode Island, Florida Southern, Navy, Johnson & Wales, Hofstra, Manhattan, Lafayette, Yale and Holy Cross, in addition to Lehigh and St. John's.
Lehigh opened its season at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational last week, with freshman Alex Aurora leading the way by tying for 52nd place at 229. Aurora, Daniel Song and David Hurly all made their college debuts for the Mountain Hawks, alongside seniors Ryan Kelly and Owen Quinn.
St. John's will offer live scoring for the Doc Gimmler via Golfstat.com.
Following The Doc Gimmler, Lehigh will play in the UConn Invitational at Greathorse, Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in Hampden, Mass.
