Postseason honors continue to roll in for Woetzel

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Lehigh senior linebacker Keith Woetzel. Two days after being named to the AP FCS All-America third team, Woetzel picked up his second All-America nod, this one a third team honor from STATS FCS. Woetzel also picked up regional recognition as he was named to the All-ECAC first team.
Lehigh's top tackler for the third consecutive season, Woetzel was a first team All-Patriot League selection, who ranks in the top 12 in the FCS in solo tackles, sacks, total tackles and tackles for loss.
Woetzel finished his senior campaign with 118 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and a school record 12 sacks. He added two interceptions and forced a fumble while starting all 11 games at inside linebacker. Woetzel was the leader of a Lehigh defense that showed vast improvement in 2019 as the Mountain Hawks allowed 100 yards and 14 points per game below their 2018 averages.
The Wyckoff, N.J. native was a two-time Patriot League Player of the Week and earned STATS FCS National Player of the Week honors following a 15-tackle, four-sack, one-interception performance at Fordham on Oct. 19.
Nationally, Woetzel ranks second in the FCS in solo tackles per game (7.2), fourth in sacks (1.09), sixth in total tackles (10.7) and 12th in tackles for loss (1.6). Woetzel leads the Patriot League in all four categories.
Woetzel reached double-digit tackles in seven of Lehigh's 11 games in 2019 and finishes his Lehigh career with 296 stops, good for sixth on the Mountain Hawks' career list.
Woetzel was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given by STATS to the top defensive player in the FCS. He tied for 21st in the final balloting.
One of four Patriot League players named to the STATS FCS All-America teams, Woetzel is the first Lehigh defensive player to appear on a STATS All-America team since cornerback Jarard Cribbs earned first team honors in 2010.
