Haffner named Academic All-Patriot League for second straight year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Less than two weeks after earning a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, Lehigh junior linebacker Pete Haffner was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, announced Wednesday. Haffner was a second team All-Patriot League selection for his on-field performance in 2019 and has consistently been one of the Mountain Hawks' top performers in the classroom.
This is the second consecutive year Haffner has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The football Academic All-Patriot League Team has 14 student-athletes to equal one-half the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team. The Academic All-League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
Haffner is a finance major with a 3.70 GPA. He is a two-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has made Lehigh's Dean's List in three of his first four semesters.
Lehigh's second leading tackler, Haffner started all 11 games at linebacker for the Mountain Hawks, recording 97 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions. Haffner was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 4 after making seven tackles and picking off a pair of passes in Lehigh's Nov. 2 contest with Holy Cross. The following Saturday at Bucknell, Haffner set a new career high with 16 tackles, while adding three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Bucknell punter Alex Pechin was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football for the third consecutive season.
