
Lam named Rookie of the Week as Lehigh returns home Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Freshman setter Alina Lam was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Lam is coming off an impressive showing on Saturday, when she was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time against Penn in the final matchup of the Valley Forge Sports Invitational at the Palestra.
The Allen, Texas native finished with 35 assists and eight digs in her first collegiate start and propelled the Mountain Hawks to a 3-1 victory over Penn to start the season 9-1, Lehigh's best start in program history.
Lam played six sets for the Mountain Hawks last week, finishing with 42 assists, 10 digs, and three blocks, while hitting .400 against NJIT and Penn.
Sophomore Sabrina Lancaster received honorable mention recognition after notching a career-high 18 kills against Penn on Saturday, hitting .351 in four sets.
Lehigh returns to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall Tuesday to welcome the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the final non-league home match of the 2018 regular season.
The Mountain Hawks saw their eight-game win streak snapped by Radford on Saturday, falling in four sets before coming back strong and downing host Penn in four sets.
Lehigh has been fortunate to receive strong play from sophomore Hannah Wright and junior Lauren Bright, who were both named to the Valley Forge Sports Invitational All-Tournament team in Philadelphia.
Wright hit .400 with 15 kills, five blocks, and three digs, while Bright hit .389 against Radford with nine kills and nine digs.
Through the first 10 matches of the season, Lehigh is hitting .241 as a team, while limiting opponents to a .122 hitting percentage. The Mountain Hawks are currently ranked first among Patriot League teams in hitting. Bucknell is second at .220.
Lehigh also leads Patriot League teams in assists per set with 12.49, large in part to senior setter Megan Polak, who is averaging nearly nine per set this season.
Maryland Eastern Shore comes to Bethlehem with a 3-6 record, most recently coming away with a 3-1 victory over Hampton in the conclusion of The Henson's Hawk Invitational on Saturday.
The Hawks are hitting .174 as a team, allowing a .236 mark to their opponents. Lucia Babic leads the team with 3.66 kills per set and a .258 hitting percentage. Ivana Blazevic has accumulated 172 assists in 20 sets played this season for Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Mountain Hawks are 1-0 all-time against Maryland Eastern Shore, winning the only previous match on Sept. 12, 1998.
