Camera Earns Three Podium Finishes as Mountain Hawks Host Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team picked up five individual wins and added six runner-up performances to go with two third place finishes on Saturday at the Lehigh Games on the Goodman Campus. Senior Michael Camera finished in the top three on three occasions including a win in the 100m dash, third place performance in the 200m, and was also a member of the winning 4x100m relay team. Freshmen Seth Slavin (steeplechase) and Evan El-Halawani (400H) also picked up individual victories, along with sophomore Joey Kelly in the pole vault. Following the meet, Lehigh held a ceremony and reception barbeque recognizing its 2018 senior class.
Camera and Samuel Tapera finished atop the field of the 100m dash, finishing in 11.30 and 11.38 seconds, respectively. The same duo led the Mountain Hawks once again in the 200m with Camera landing on the podium in third place in 22.63 seconds and Tapera following in seventh (23.38).
Junior Emre Soybas finished runner-up out of 19 runners in the 400m dash (48.74).
Lehigh landed four runners in the top 10 of the 800m run. Freshman Sean Brown finished runner-up in the 48-person field in 1:53.68. Kyle Berman (1:56.14) followed in sixth place, James Chappell (1:56.53) took eighth and Clay Stabolepszy (1:56.87) rounded out the top 10.
Henry Paul landed on the podium in third place of the 1500m, finishing under the four-minute mark for the first time in his career at 3:56.14. Freshmen Eric Kersten and Brad DeMassa followed in 10th and 11th places, respectively.
Lehigh landed three in the top four overall of the 3,000m steeplechase, including the top two spots courtesy of Slavin and senior Joseph Inglis. Slavin broke the tape in 9:32.72, with Inglis following right behind in 9:37.37. Freshman Nick Norton finished just off the podium in fourth 9:48.86.
El-Halawani broke the tape in the 400m hurdles with his 55.52-second finish. He also took fourth (15.98m) in the 110m hurdles earlier in the day, setting new PR's in both.
The Mountain Hawks also received a victory from the 4x100m relay group of Camera, Jake Sabatini, Matt Solomon and Tapera who combined for a winning mark of 42.84 seconds.
Over in the field events, Kelly took home the vault title after clearing 4.55m on his first attempt. Michael Gooding took runner-up in the triple jump, leaping 14.45m on his second attempt, breaking his old PR by 22 centimeters. Eric Metz followed just off the podium in fourth place at 13.20m.
Junior Ryan Givens flew 6.81m in the long jump to lead LU in a tie for fourth. Freshman Justin Brown placed sixth after landing a 6.65m jump. Solomon followed in ninth (6.23m) to make it three Mountain Hawks in the top 10.
Freshman Riley LaRiviere and sophomore Adam Freesman placed eighth and ninth, respectively to pace LU in the hammer throw.
Alexander Rodgers (14.25m) took sixth and Anastasios Mouzakis (PR-12.92m) took 10th in the shot put, which was won by Lehigh alum and All-American Lucas Warning '17 (18.62m), who competed unattached.
Christopher Alexy (42.97m) and Trevor Knowles (42.69m) placed eighth and ninth in the discus.
The javelin kicked off the games late on Friday afternoon with sophomore Kyle Sult taking runner-up at 57.17m. Senior Anthony Galantini (61.39m) won the event while competing as an unattached competitor.
With the regular season now complete, the Mountain Hawks will join the rest of the league at Lafayette next weekend for the Patriot League Championships. Check back to Lehighsports.com for a complete preview this week.
