Lehigh to make short trip to Hellertown for Lafayette's Invitational beginning Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will play its first spring event in the northeast this weekend when the Mountain Hawks make the short trek to Hellertown to compete in Lafayette's Abarta Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational, beginning Sunday at The Steel Club (formerly Silver Creek Country Club).
The event features 36 holes of competition, the first 18 Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the final 18 Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m., with 16 teams set to compete.
Lehigh's first two spring events were played in Florida as the Mountain Hawks finished eighth out of 10 teams at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate in February and eighth out of 14 two weeks ago at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular. Sophomore Owen Quinn led the Mountain Hawks tying for 10th overall followed by classmate Ryan Kelly. Junior Johnny Hsu led Lehigh in the March 18 final round with a 73. Quinn's opening round 68 was the lowest by a Lehigh player so far this season.
The Abarta Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational will be played on The Steel Club's par 72, 6,655 yard championship course. The field includes Patriot League members Lehigh, Lafayette and Holy Cross plus Binghamton, Bryant, Fordham, Hofstra, Monmouth, Niagara, University of Ottawa, Rhode Island, Rider, Robert Morris, Siena, Villanova and UConn.
UConn is the defending team champion. Last year Lehigh tied for 11th place with senior Billy Johns leading the way by tying for 11th place individually.
Lafayette will offer live scoring on golfstat.com.
Following the Abarta Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational, Lehigh will play in Villanova's Wildcat Invitational April 9-10 in Malvern, Pa.
