Lehigh set for league rematches with Navy, Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — With a week layoff from the last time the team played, Lehigh volleyball is back in action this weekend to continue Patriot League play with a match against Navy in Annapolis on Friday night and a meeting with Loyola on Saturday.
This will be the second time the Mountain Hawks have seen both teams this season, picking up a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Loyola at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Sept. 21 before falling in five sets to Navy the very next day. Lehigh's loss to the Midshipmen was only the second overall loss on the schedule at the time.
Lehigh has struggled in its last two matches, falling to American last Tuesday in five sets, after leading 2-0 at home. The Mountain Hawks then fell at Colgate, 3-2 after trailing 2-0 to open the match. With the losses, Lehigh fell to 16-4 overall, 5-3 in the Patriot League.
The Mountain Hawks are led by junior middle-blocker Emily Poole, who leads the team in hitting percentage with a .360 mark, good enough for second in the Patriot League. Even more notable, Poole paces Lehigh with a Patriot League-leading 96 blocks, averaging 1.23 per set.
Freshman Alina Lam took over Lehigh's team-lead for assists with 425 on the season, averaging 7.46 per set. Senior Megan Polak has added 388 assists, averaging 7.19 per set.
Sophomore Sabrina Lancaster continues to grasp on to the team lead in kills with 244 on the year, averaging 3.25 per set in 75 sets played this season. Junior Julia Pressly and sophomore Hannah Wright are tied for second on the team with 183 kills.
The Mountain Hawks are currently hitting .217 as a team this year, holding opponents to a .151 mark through the first 20 matches of the season.
The Midshipmen have won their last four matches since falling to first place American on Sept. 30. The loss to the Eagles is Navy's only Patriot League loss of the season so far.
Navy is coming off a 3-0 sweep of Holy Cross last Saturday. Maddi Sgattoni led the team with 11 kills, while Sarena Seelbach finished with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Katie Patrick hit .462 with seven kills, a block and a dig. Patricia Mattingly had 38 assists and eight digs for the Mids.
Patrick is currently first in the Patriot League in hitting percentage on the season at .369. She's third in blocks (90) and blocks per set (1.13). Sgattoni is second in the Patriot League in kills with 281, averaging 3.47 per set.
The Greyhounds enter play this weekend with an overall record of 10-11 and a Patriot League record of 5-3. Loyola has won four straight matches since losing to American on Oct. 3. The team swept Colgate on Sunday.
Loyola is led by two-time reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Ann Ernst who leads the league in kills with 301, averaging 3.67 per set. The Greyhounds have also gotten stellar play from two-time reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Katie Forsythe, who leads the league in digs by a wide margin with 504, averaging 6.15 per set.
Lehigh's match with Navy on Friday at 7 p.m. and the match with Loyola on Saturday at 2 p.m. will both be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
