PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh men's cross country team competed in the Princeton Invitational Friday as the Mountain Hawks finished 12th overall.
Among the teams Lehigh faced were some of the top-ranked teams in the Mid-Atlantic with Princeton placing first and Villanova placing second. Finishing with 345 points as a squad, Lehigh was the best team from the Patriot League in the race, finishing ahead of American.
Junior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum set the pace for the Mountain Hawks with a 26th place finish and a time of 24:46.4. Behind Kirshenbaum was sophomore Eric Kersten who finished 73rd with a time of 25:24.0. Fellow sophomore Sean Brown was next to finish, as he came in 74th place with a time of 25:25.8.
"Sean and Erik ran a great race, they worked with each other the whole way, talking to each other and making aggressive moves. I though those two had a break out performance, and at the end of the day if they do that week in and week out they'll be a formidable pair," said head coach Todd Etters.
"Jeff did a great job of staying up front, he had to keep fighting to move up. He's a gritty runner, so he did a great job to fight throughout the race. With all said and done I think he's going to be happier with this week but not quite satisfied."
Lehigh will see one final test, as they take part in the Bucknell Tuneup on October 19 in preparation for the Patriot League Championship on October 27.
"Everyone in the group has had great races on different weekends and we just have to put it together in a couple weeks so we all have good races on the same day," said Etters.
