Mountain Hawks Cruise to 4-1 Win at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Lehigh capped off its two-game weekend road trip with dominant performance and 4-1 win over Siena on Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks (2-6) kept the pressure on Siena (0-8) throughout the game and produced a lopsided margin in the shot column (21-3), including shots on goal (14-2), as both totals are season-highs for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks also owned a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners and held the Saints without a shot until the 24th minute of play.
Three different Mountain Hawks scored on the day, led by a two-goal performance by Teresa Carotenuto. Drew Pecora also tallied a goal, while dishing out an assist for her first career points. Isabel McKeown also got in on the scoring action with a goal to start the second half, which was also her first of the season.
"We have been working very hard at holding ourselves accountable in executing our strategy and today I thought our forwards did a great job of being committed and capitalizing on the opportunities that they created," said head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "Teresa Carontenuto helped lead a very young attacking unit. I thought she did a great job of holding herself accountable today and capitalized in the crucial moments. Drew Pecora was also key today on the attack and scored her first career goal. I would also like to recognize Jenna Krause who moved up to a more offensive role today and was a key factor in helping our attack."
After pressuring Siena through the early part of the first half, Lehigh finally broke through in the 23rd minute. Pecora crossed a pass in front of the cage and found Carotenuto who managed to put her stick on the ball for the redirect goal.
After breaking the ice, Lehigh remained hungry for more. In the 28th minute, Carotenuto ripped a shot off the goalie's pads and waiting to clean up the rebound was Pecora. Just minutes after recording her first career point, Pecora now had her first career goal.
The Mountain Hawks took an 11-2 shot advantage into the halftime break with an 8-1 margin in shots on goal.
Three minutes out of the break, Lehigh was on the board again following a penalty corner. McKeown did the scoring this time as she found pay dirt after knocking in her own rebound for her first goal of the season.
On the ensuing possession following McKeown's goal, Siena got on the board in less than a minute. Margaret Conway sent a long pass to Fariyah Omarshah inside the circle. Omarshah maneuvered into an open shooting lane and managed to get enough on her shot so that the ball trickled over the goal line.
For the remainder of the half, Lehigh limited Siena's chances by holding the Saints to just three penalty corners and no more shots. Meanwhile, the Mountain Hawks compiled five shots after Siena's goal and found the back of the cage for the fourth time on the sixth shot when Carotenuto put back her own rebound after her initial shot hit the post.
Lehigh capped off the weekend with a 1-1 record and a much-deserved win. Up next, Mountain Hawks return home to face American on Friday in their first Patriot League matchup at home this season.
