
Mountain Hawks open fall with fifth place finish at Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's golf team entered the final day of its fall-opening Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational battling for the team lead but a final round 309 Sunday at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club dropped the Mountain Hawks to fifth place out of 16 teams. Lehigh finished the 54-hole event at 902 (298-295-309).

Senior Billy Johns led the way, tying for third place overall at two over par 218 (70-71-77). Johns was one of several players to card a 70, which was the low round of the weekend.

Junior Johnny Hsu was Lehigh's top performer on Sunday, shooting three over par 75 to tie for 32nd place at 228 (77-76-75).

Also competing for Lehigh were sophomores Ryan Kelly and Owen Quinn and junior Lee Hammerschmidt. Kelly finished the tournament at 227 (76-72-79) and tied for 29th place while Quinn tied for 35th after posting a 229 (75-76-78). Hammerschmidt shot 234 (78-77-79) and tied for 55th place.

North Dakota State used a final round team score of 290 to move past 36-hole leaders Cornell and claim the team title. The Bison finished at 884 (303-291-290), besting the Big Red by two strokes. Penn finished third at 892 followed by Seton Hall (897) and then Lehigh.

Penn's Josh Goldenberg was the individual medalist at one under par 215 (74-71-70). He topped Cornell's Mike Graboyes by two strokes.

Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Binghamton, Oct. 1-2 in Apalachin, N.Y. Quinn earned individual medalist honors in the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational last year. Â
