Lehigh once again earns AVCA Academic Team Award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball program was recognized for its academic accomplishments in the 2016-17 school year as the Mountain Hawks received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, the organization announced Monday.

Lehigh is one of 145 Division I women's programs and 822 programs across all levels of college and high school women's and men's volleyball to receive the academic award. The AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale. The Mountain Hawks recorded a team GPA of 3.38 during the 2016-17 school year.

Nine Mountain Hawks were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in February after recording GPAs of 3.2 or better during the fall semester, while rising junior Megan Polak was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League volleyball team at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

This marks the fourth straight year that Lehigh has received the AVCA Academic Team Award.

The Mountain Hawks will open preseason camp in early August and will begin the 2017 campaign when they host St. Peter's, Marist, Radford and Coppin State for the Lehigh Fall Classic August 25-26 at Stabler Arena.
