Mountain Hawks complete series sweep with 8-0 win at Holy Cross

BETHLEHEM Pa. - Lehigh jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and wouldn't look back, on its way to an 8-0, six-inning win at Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks scored twice in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings to win for the 15th time in their last 17 games. Junior Carolyn Wright powered the offense with four RBI while senior Christine Campbell allowed just three hits in five innings for the win.
Wright finished the afternoon 2-for-3 behind a pair of two-run singles. Senior Ashley Cole was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored while classmate Vicky Lattanzio was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while juniors Nicole Yozzo and Rachel Timberman also had hits. Campbell didn't allow more than a single hit in any inning.
Wright began the afternoon by driving in Yozzo and Cole with a two-out single, giving the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead after a half inning. Lehigh doubled its lead in the third as Cole began the frame with one of her three hits, then freshman Mary-Hannah Smith reached on an error. A Lattanzio single drove in Cole while Smith crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Ashley Quidolit Rabago, giving the Mountain Hawks a 4-0 advantage.
The fifth inning saw two more runs cross the plate, which included an RBI single from Timberman. Lehigh went on to score two more an inning later. Again, Cole led off the frame with a hit and Wright drove in the runs with a single.
Freshman pitcher Parker Boyd entered in the sixth inning and gave up two hits, but got out of the inning unscathed, sealing the 8-0 victory.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Princeton for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Lehigh returns home next Saturday when they host Albany in a nonleague doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
