Lehigh wins Wildcat Invitational; Hsu ties for medalist honors

MALVERN, Pa. – Two players posted rounds in the 60s and as a team Lehigh shot a final round even par 284 to move up from third place and capture the team title at the 19-team Wildcat Invitational, which wrapped-up Tuesday at White Manor Country Club. Lehigh posted a 36-hole score of 570 to claim a two stroke victory over Cleveland State.

Sophomore Johnny Hsu shot a final round four under par 67 to finish in a three-way tie for individual medalist honors at three under par 139. Hsu shot 72 on Monday and 67 on Tuesday to become the second Lehigh player to win a tournament this season, joining freshman Owen Quinn who won the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational in October.

The team title was the first for the Mountain Hawks since capturing the 2013 Patriot League Championship. Lehigh claimed the team title at the Wildcat Invitational after finishing second to Cleveland State last year.

Hsu tied for top honors with Cleveland State's Patrick Luth and Villanova's Connor Daly. His final round 67, which featured five birdies and one bogey, was the low round of the tournament.

Junior Billy Johns was the medalist at this tournament two years ago and shot a final round 68 to post another top five finish at the event, tying for fourth place at 141 (73-68). Johns carded four birdies to just one bogey in his final round.

Lehigh's three remaining players were all freshmen. Ryan Kelly led Lehigh with a 69 on Monday and shot 74 on Tuesday to tie for 13th place at 143. Owen Quinn shot 147 (72-75) and tied for 31st place. Chris Pollan was Lehigh's fifth scoring player, carding rounds of 84 and 86 to finish in 105th place at 170.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action when they play in the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lafayette, Sunday and Monday at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, Pa.
