Lehigh finishes 14th at spring-opening tournament in Florida

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Freshman Ryan Kelly led the Lehigh men's golf team with a four over par 76 Sunday on the final day of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular. Kelly was one of just two of the nine Mountain Hawks to break 80 on the final day of play at the Mission Inn Resort. As a team, Lehigh shot 320 on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole total of 943 (314-309-320). The Mountain Hawks finished 14th in the 17-team field.
 
Kelly's 76 capped a 54-hole total of 235 (81-78-76) as he tied for 53rd place as Lehigh's second highest finisher. Junior Johnny Hsu was the low Mountain Hawk on the weekend finishing at 231 (78-73-80), highlighted by a round of one over par 73 on Saturday afternoon. Hsu tied for 41st place.
 
Freshman Owen Quinn led Lehigh with an opening round 75 and after rounds of 80 and 82 finished in a tie for 60th place at 237.
 
Junior Billy Johns and sophomore Lee Hammerschmidt were Lehigh's other two scoring players. Johns tied for 73rd place with a final score of 240 (80-78-82), while Hammerschmidt finished at 253 (81-87-85) and tied for 95th place.
 
Lehigh had four players compete as individuals, led by freshman Joe Ender, who was also part of the tie for 95th at 253 (83-81-89). The Mountain Hawks' other three individuals all tied for 100th place at 255, led by sophomore Max Redetzke (89-87-79), who broke 80 on Sunday, plus sophomore Eamon Marone (83-81-91) and freshman Chris Pollan (83-83-89).
 
TCU broke 300 in the final two rounds to claim the team title at 875 (301-283-291). The Horned Frogs posted an 11 stroke victory over Marquette, while tournament host George Mason finished third.
 
Ohio's Peyton White was the individual medalist, finishing at one under par 215 (72-70-73) to beat TCU's Triston Fisher by one stroke.
 
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be Villanova's Wildcat Invitational, March 27-28 in Malvern, Pa.
