BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After downing Holy Cross 34-21 Saturday to move to 4-1 in Patriot League play, two members of the Lehigh football team were honored with Patriot League weekly awards on Monday. Junior running back Dominick Bragalone has been named Patriot League Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, while junior kicker/punter Ed Mish earned his first Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Bragalone was also named the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 201 yards and four touchdowns in Lehigh's victory. He is the second Lehigh offensive player to earn national player of the week honors from STATS FCS, joining senior wide receiver Troy Pelletier, who was honored after catching four touchdown passes in an Oct. 14 win over Georgetown.
Against Holy Cross, Bragalone set career highs in rushing attempts (30) and rushing touchdowns (4), becoming the first Lehigh player to rush for four touchdowns in a game since Eric Rath rushed for four at Colgate in 2005. He scored on runs of six and seven yards in the first half and added touchdown runs of 33 and 45 yards in the second half. Bragalone eclipsed the 200-yard mark for the second time in three weeks and posted just the 11th 200-yard rushing game in school history.
A two-yard run on Lehigh's first play from scrimmage put Bragalone over 1,000 rushing yards on the season, making him the first Lehigh player to record three 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Bragalone also moved past Rod Gardner '77 into second place on Lehigh's career rushing list. At 3,379 yards he is 317 behind Rabih Abdullan '97 for Lehigh's career record.
In five Patriot League games, Bragalone has rushed for 863 yards and 11 touchdowns. He us up to an even 1,200 on the season, which ranks third in the FCS, and leads the FCS with 16 rushing touchdowns and 19 total touchdowns.
Mish was honored for the first time this season after scoring double-figure points for the second time during league play. He connected on all four of his extra points and added a pair of field goals, including a season-long 41-yarder to help Lehigh build a 27-7 third quarter lead. Mish also punted six times, averaging 42 yards per punt with four placed inside the Crusaders' 20 yard line.
For the season, Mish has 41 points connecting on 4-of-5 field goals and 29-of-31 extra points despite missing time due to injury. He is averaging 39.2 yards per punt.
Senior defensive lineman Tyler Cavenas garnered honorable mention recognition after recording four tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss while leading one of the Mountain Hawks' best defensive performances of the season. Cavenas also blocked a Holy Cross punt in the first quarter which led to Bragalone's first touchdown.
At 4-1 in the Patriot League Lehigh remains in control of its own destiny for the Patriot League championship. A win Saturday over Lafayette in the 153rd meeting of college football's most-played rivalry would give the Mountain Hawks their second straight Patriot League title and FCS playoff berth. Saturday's rivalry game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. from Goodman Stadium.
