Mountain Hawks drop 4-0 final at Columbia

NEW YORK - Columbia scored early in each half, putting the Lehigh field hockey team into an early hole which proved too much to overcome as the Lions downed the Mountain Hawks, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Innarella was strong, making nine saves, five in the first half to keep Lehigh within 1-0 after 35 minutes of play. The Mountain Hawks surged down the stretch, firing four of the game's final seven shots, but they couldn't beat Columbia goalkeeper Katie Dempsey.

Columbia took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, converting a rebound following an initial Innarella save. The Lions ended the first half with a 15-0 edge in shots, but the Mountain Hawks' defense stood tall, shutting them out the rest of the stanza.

The Lions scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to open a 3-0 advantage. From there, Lehigh settled down and began creating attacking opportunities. Included was three shots on goal, by freshmen Lenke Havas in the 52nd minute, junior Lauren Dice in the 57th minute and freshman Maddie Monahan in the 59th minute. Perhaps Lehigh's best opportunity came in the 64th minute when Pecora had inside position as she was attacking from the end line, leading to a penalty corner. Columbia added an insurance goal in the 67th minute to account for the 4-0 final.
