Volleyball Starts Second Half of League Slate This Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks return to the court this weekend as they begin the second round of Patriot League play. Lehigh will hit the road to face Holy Cross at 7 p.m. on Friday before traveling to Colgate to face the Raiders at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh (14-8, 5-3) is looking to get back on the winning track and shake off its first back-to-back losses since September 9 after falling to Navy and Army last week. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to complete season sweeps over both Holy Cross (3-18, 0-8) and Colgate (11-9, 2-6). Both opponents rank in the bottom third of the league standings.
The Mountain Hawks posted 3-0 victories over Holy Cross and Colgate in the previous meetings this season. Lehigh hit a combined .275 in those matches, while the Crusaders and Raiders combined for a .155 attack percentage. Lehigh posted 15.7 kills per set and 15.0 blocks per set, while Holy Cross and Colgate combined for averages of 11.7 and 10.0, respectively.
Ana Spangenberg led Lehigh with a combined 34 kills and a .408 attack percentage in the previous matches against the Crusaders and Raiders. Sabrina Lancaster and Lauren Bright each posted 12 combined kills, while Emily Poole combined for six total blocks and a 1.50 blocks per set average.
Spangenberg leads Lehigh with 4.18 kills per set on a .308 attack percentage through the first half of Patriot League matches this season. Victoria Hemsath ranks second on the team with 2.47 kills per set against league opponents. Megan Polak ranks second in the league as she is averaging 9.59 assists per set in league play as the team is posting 13.6 kills per set. Bright has a team-leading 0.89 blocks per set in league play, while Emily Develle is averaging 4.31 digs per set.
Holy Cross has a .000 attack percentage through the first half of Patriot League play this season with an average of 11.26 kills per set. The Crusaders are last in the league with 1.00 blocks per set and rank third with 17.15 digs per set. Sophie Van Severen ranks second in the league with 6.37 digs per set against league competition, while Katie Kerins ranks third with 0.47 service aces per set. Kerins also leads the Crusaders with 2.58 kills per set in league play.
Colgate is hitting .197 in league play with an average of 12.27 kills per set. The Raiders are averaging 1.93 blocks per set and 15.07 digs per set. Alli Lowe ranks fourth in the league with 3.67 kills per set against league competition and Lauren Sanderson is third in the league with 9.33 assists per set.
Lehigh has won 18 of the last 19 meetings with Holy Cross and is looking for its ninth season sweep over the Crusaders in the last 10 seasons. Lehigh will be looking to complete its second season sweep against Colgate in the last three seasons and pick up its fifth win in Hamilton, N.Y. in six meetings.
