Mountain Hawks drop 3-1 road contest at Lock Haven

10/14/2017 4:52:00 PM | Field Hockey

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Junior Teresa Carotenuto evened the score less than six minutes after Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead, but it wasn't enough as the Bald Eagles scored the final two goals to down the Lehigh field hockey team, 3-1 in a nonleague matchup Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks didn't allow a first-half shot, but Lock Haven tallied seven of the nine second-half shots to come out victorious.

"We played a great first half against a strong Lock Haven team," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "I was happy with our ability to implement pieces of our game plan that allowed us to gain strong attacking opportunities. Unfortunately, we were not able to finish in key moments and failed to defend their quick counterattacks, which left us exposed defensively on several occasions. When we play strong teams, we need to be disciplined with the details of receiving and releasing. We struggled with that today."

Lehigh fired the only three first-half shots, with Carotenuto recording the first shot on goal in the 33rd minute, which was saved by Lock Haven goalkeeper Paige Stuppy.

The Bald Eagles' Taryn Piano converted her team's first shot into the game's first goal at the 39:29 mark, but the Mountain Hawks quickly answered. Carotenuto responded with her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 45:27 mark, assisted by freshman Lenke Havas off a penalty corner.

However, Lock Haven answered with the game's final two goals, at 54:05 and an insurance tally at 67:20, to give the Bald Eagles a 3-1 victory.

Final shots were 7-5 in favor of Lock Haven while penalty corners were even at three. Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Innarella made two saves, across Lock Haven's Stuppy, who tallied one.

The Mountain Hawks will return home in less than 24 hours as they host Georgetown on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. It's Senior Day as Jackie Renda, Laura Yuh, Julia Washburn and Alexis Arancio will be recognized prior to gametime.
