
Volleyball to Compete at Bama Bash this Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team will hit the road this weekend when the Mountain Hawks travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Hampton Inn Bama Bash hosted by the University of Alabama. Lehigh will face Southern Mississippi and Northwestern State on Friday before squaring-off against the host Crimson Tide on Saturday.
Lehigh enters this weekend's competition on a two-match win streak after compiling a record of 2-1 last weekend at home in the Crosstown Invitational. The Mountain Hawks went ahead 2-0 over Providence on Friday, but the Friars took the last three sets, including a 16-14 victory in the fifth set to claim the match. Lehigh then cruised to two 3-0 victories on Saturday over Saint Peter's and Farleigh Dickinson.
Sophomore libero Emily Develle earned All-Tournament Team honors as she recorded a team-best 50 digs on the weekend to go along with nine assists and three service aces. Sophomore Victoria Hemsath and freshman Jessica Donaldson led the team offensively as they both averaged of 11 kills per match. Junior Bonaire Berry paced the Mountain Hawks with 63 assists on the weekend, while Megan Polak contributed 37. Freshman Emily Poole led Lehigh with 16 blocks and four service aces to go with 23 kills and seven digs in her collegiate debut weekend.
The Mountain Hawks will take on Southern Mississippi at 2 p.m. on Friday in their first match of the weekend. The Golden Eagles boast a 6-2 record on the season and had their four-match win streak snapped on Tuesday night in a 3-2 loss at South Alabama. Southern Miss. was picked fourth out of 13 teams in the Conference USA preseason poll after posting a record of 24-11 last season. Friday's matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Lehigh takes on Northwestern State at 5 p.m. in the second match on Friday. The Lady Demons are 4-5 on the year after going 2-2 last weekend at the UAB-Samford Tournament where they earned victories over Southeast Missouri State and UAB. Friday's competition will also be the first-ever meeting between Mountain Hawks and the Lady Demons.
On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will face Alabama at noon for their final match of the weekend. The Crimson Tide enter the weekend with a record of 5-2 on the season after posting a 2-1 record at the Puerto Rico Clasico last weekend. Alabama picked up wins over Virginia Tech and Temple in Puerto Rico with a loss to No. 13 Florida State. The Crimson Tide was picked sixth out of 13 teams in the SEC preseason poll with a record of 17-15 last season. Lehigh and Alabama will meet for the first time when the two programs square-off on Saturday. Live video of the match will be streaming live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
Following the Bama Bash, Lehigh will travel to Villanova for a single match with the Wildcats on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
